As General Manager, I am working towards expanding our presence in the Americas, as well as making sure the team in Houston is happy and motivated. A large part of my job is to match available tonnage and cargo in the most efficient way. This is often dependent on how the market fluctuates. I rely on my experience and on the strong ties with brokers and our offices overseas when making evaluations.
We also collaborate closely with our colleagues in Bulk Operations. We receive frequent updates on the vessels’ voyages, which enable us to employ tonnage efficiently and to avoid losses. We manage a large bulk fleet and this makes it possible to substitute ships and ensure on-time voyages, even in case of unforeseen issues. We recently had a case where a client urgently needed to move a small steel parcel. We were able to swap around two Clipper vessels in order to free up one of them for the steel parcel. By being flexible and understanding the market, we can meet our clients’ needs in the best possible way.
